Finding the Right Psychic

The terms psychic, reader, intuitive and sensitive are often misconstrued.  Please bear in mind these terms are relative to different cultures, countries, counties and languages. Certain words, terminology and definitions simply do not exist in some languages. 

The words themselves are best viewed as different terminology for the same thing-sensitivity, consciousness and awareness. 
An intuitive reading can be a psychic reading and vice versa if one truly understands the concepts. 

All psychics are intuitives and all intuitives are tapping into their "psychic'' abilities. 
What is the difference then between a psychic reading and an intuitive one?
None really. It depends on what your preferred terminology is or how a reader wishes to present themselves.

Often, it is a simple matter of semantics.  In the metaphysical and new age world much of the terminology encompasses a great variety of meanings.  Many people imagine a psychic reading is one which predicts the future but nothing is further from the truth.  One of the main differences is that some psychics reference the use of their spirit or angelic guides. Intuitives often just rely on their own intuition.  Intuitives often like you to engage actively in your reading and encourage you to speak about your own feelings.  Since a good reading is co-created between reader and client, it depends entirely on the relationship between you and your consultant.  Sometimes, but not always, someone lacking any real training in any of the healing or metaphysical arts will bill themselves as an intuitive.  One is not better than the other; rather they are different sides of the same coin.

Psychic/Intuitive is defined as being able to sense information from a deeper level. These levels are considered metaphysical and largely unseen in the mundane world. One senses them, feels them or sees them in a unique way.  A good example of being psychic is a mother's intuition.  The tools used are variable: consciousness and subconscious awareness, meditation, intuition, and faith. Physical tools may also include tarot or angel cards, runes, the elementals and gemstones. 

A few things a psychic is not.  The media has a powerful influence on many people, able to shift your reality to actually believe what is not true.  Thanks to common misconception, many folks mistakenly view psychics as something of a "spiritual slot machine".  We are fully expected to pop out any answer to any question and be 100% accurate, figure out your problem, solve your problem, predict your future, find your mate, and fix your marriage and basically plot out your life.
All this is expected to be done in the 3-5 minutes you have paid for and without any information, sometimes; we are not even given the courtesy of a greeting.  Think of going to the doctor and how much information you give her. You tell your doctor as much as possible to help her/him intuitively help assess your problem. Most folks love to talk about themselves, their ills and issues and what led to them.  Why then, would one refuse to give info to another "medicine" woman who is trying to help you?  If we all had these powers, earth would be paradise and no one would need to take any responsibility for their actions in addition to giving away all of their personal power.  Since good psychics seek to enlighten and empower individuals, please consider the rest of this article a reasonable guide for you.
 
The Media is Techno magic at its best. Psychics, readers and healers are everyday people first.  They have families, jobs, mothers, and lives. Not all wear tons of eye liner, wiggle their noses or wear gypsy clothing though many do and there is nothing discrediting about any of those things. Not all follow a pagan path; many are Christians, Catholics, Hebrew, etc. I even hear some have not read Harry Potter Many true psychics are humble, quiet folks, away from the spotlight. Some live in the woods, don’t own TV's, don’t wear make-up and in general like to be surrounded by earth, dirt, animals and plants. Many psychics live in urban areas and cities and are equally humble.  No true psychic disrespects other paths, peoples or spiritual beliefs.   A genuine reader maintains a level of humility about their gifts.  They do not need to perform or be in costume, own crystal balls or speak with an accent, though many do this naturally as this is part of who they are.  Nor will they claim to solve all your problems, bring back an old love guaranteed or heal you.  They will not sell you candles, spells or prayers.  Psychic does not mean a person has magical powers or gifts, though some may.  Some may be able to perceive sights, sounds, scents etc from another realm. Some may be able to see or sense spirits.  If you expect your reader to be a television version of a medium, you may be disappointed. These are delicate and gentle areas in which we walk and believe it or not, life experience and age may often contribute to the making of a gifted reader. 

How do I find a Good Psychic/Intuitive Reader? 
No matter what they are called, you should feel comfortable with the person you are asking to read for you.  Some readers use tools such as tarot, runes, crystals, plants, animals, astrology etc. They serve as vehicles for intuition and are often used for the comfort of the caller. It also shows that a reader has taken the time and energy to learn the use of the tool.  Don't dismiss a reader because one may or may not use these. A no tools reader/psychic is not necessarily a better or more accurate psychic. Even intuition and spirit guides can be considered tools/vehicles.  Trust your own intuition with this. A reader should make you feel relaxed and comfortable, a bit like sitting down with a good friend to review the issues in your life. A psychic reading is an intimate exchange of energy and you should feel respected by your reader. A psychic does not always predict or tell your future. They do not necessarily pick up mundane details such as kinds of cars, numbers, and colors of clothing or even physical appearance. Some readers have these skills but others do not. Do not dismiss a psychic or tarot consultant or healer because they do not work in these realms.

Does your psychic /tarot reader have any education/training/credentials or verifiable references? 
Although not necessary, many good readers will seek to have a well-rounded educational and training process. This can cover university studies, technology, science, spirituality, yoga, medicine, the metaphysical, herbs, etc...

The Natural Born Psychic and the Generational Number
Many psychics claim to be a 12 generation natural born psychic etc.  I believe most humans are indeed natural born and all of us have inherent skills.  Our environments and upbringing may or may not give rise to these skills.  Though we may feel a strong ancestral connection to our ethnic and rich cultural lineage, intuitive gifts are not always automatically passed down genetically. Often, gifts skip generations.  Just because someone may have 12 generations of prior ancestral psychics it does not necessarily mean they have the same skills. It is not an automatic occurrence.  Since everyone has intuitive abilities it makes sense that many could claim such a lineage; however each individual needs to claim their own unique skills.  Don’t be afraid to ask your psychic for information and references, Psychics that have this lineage should be able to provide you the names and experiences of their ancestors and would be proud to do so.  Please do not feel this is a necessary credential but it can be a valid one.

The Four Clairs
 
There are 4 main areas of intuitive or psychic adeptness that many look for. They are commonly called the 4 clairs.  Although mostly everyone has the ability for all of these, many folks have one or two as their main talent.  Their definition is fairly broad but here they are in a nutshell.  These abilities can be learned and developed.

Clairvoyance (clear seeing) – seeing fleeting images and colors, dreaming vividly and intensely, recognizing symbols and seeing repeated number sequences, seeing a scene in your mind before it happens – clairvoyance is the act of seeing with the mind’s eye.
•Clairaudience (clear hearing)– hearing a strong voice in the mind warning of danger, the familiar unexpected notes of a loved one’s favorite song when thinking of them, or hearing a song or overhearing a conversation which gives you exactly what you need to hear. The angels are letting you know that they are around and protecting you. You may also hear angel messages outside your mind just as you were talking to someone directly in front of you.
•Clair cognizance (clear knowing) – knowing information with no idea how or why you know, information given to you in your mind just exactly when you need it. Many intellectual people are Clair cognizant.
•Clairsentience (clear feeling)– intuiting things that are coming, getting gut feelings about situations, perhaps preceded by or accompanied with goose bumps, chills, nausea, heat. An empathic person can literally feel the emotions of others.

Ask a Friend if they've seen a Psychic they really liked.  Often this is a great way to find a psychic and to open up discussions about intuition.  Many of your friends may have a psychic's business card tucked away.  Ask your Spirit to guide you to a good psychic.

Warning Signs
If you leave a psychic feeling scared or frightened, never go back to this person and erase from your memory all that you were told by them!  A good psychic reading should be empowering, and while you may hear things that you didn't want to hear, you should hear them gently. Often clients simply go to a reader to confirm those intuitions that they are already receiving. Any reader who is over dramatic or who frightens you should be on stage; not doing readings.  If a psychic insists that they know better than you what is right for you, never go back!  “I told you that would happen!" should never happen. If you have a psychic who is hung up in being right, rather than helping you make choices in your life, look for a new psychic. You're the one who is living your life...the choices are always yours to make. A psychic shouldn't make you feel like an ignorant child. They don't get to vote on how you live your life, they only get to observe and advise. You choose.If a psychic wants to sell you candles or prayers to improve your lot in life, to take away an evil curse, to bring you money or to find the perfect mate, never go back.

Remember: You are the author of your life; no psychic can change the course of your life, only you can do that!
If a psychic insists that you should come back on a regular basis so that they can help you through a difficult time, be very careful.  A good psychic is working to help you develop your own strengths and recognize your own power. They do not want to create a dependent relationship with their clients. While occasionally a situation may warrant a more frequent check-in, generally speaking, checking in with a psychic every six months should be ample.  If you feel the psychic doesn't genuinely care about you, never go back.  I have had many readings from all sorts of readers and those who truly care about their clients simply shine. You can feel their concern and attention. Most of us feel guided to do this work and feel it is an honor to be allowed to read for someone.  Finally, if you leave a reading without feeling empowered or without having gained a new perspective on your life and your choices, you might want to shop for a new psychic.  A good psychic reading is not so much about someone predicting what will happen in your future. Your future changes with each choice you make. Rather, a reading is more often about identifying things you may be missing in your current situation and discovering what changes or choices you can make to bring toward you the future you choose. 

Should I ask Vague Questions to Test the Reader? 
Please don't. I understand that people think "Stump the Psychic" is the definitive test for deciding if you're dealing with a gifted a reader, but it is not the best way to get a good reading.  Also if you are vague about what you want from a reading, you may find that what you receive is equally vague. Usually, the clearer your intention when coming to a reader; the better your result. Think of a reading as collaboration between you and your reader. If you want good advice, you may want to explain some of the details, but it's up to you.

What is the deeper question you wish to ask?
